Falmouth Boat Company has completed complicated repairs on two very different vessels this month.
Discovery 55 ‘Bellatrix Too’ is a luxury ocean going yacht that balances performance with quality. As such, she demanded a particularly high level of repair and finish after sustaining damage to her hull.
Tim Frazer-Holland, the owner of ‘Bellatrix Too’, is pleased with the results.

The owner of Falmouth Boat Co Jonathan Fielding especially enjoys working on leisure craft.
“Repairing and refinishing both of these vessels required employing multiple skills simultaneously from boatbuilding to engineering. Our status as an AWLGRIP finishing application centre was also invaluable since the aesthetics of these types of leisure boats are especially important.”
‘Orinoco Flo’ is a 40 foot catamaran that lost her mast during a transatlantic race last year. A stay broke releasing the mast which then went overboard, damaging one of her hulls in the process. She was found 85 miles from the Isles of Scilly and towed by lifeboat to Falmouth.
Having been requested by the insurers to assess the damage, Falmouth Boat Co went on to rebuild the high tech hull using carbon fibre composites and Kevlar, which ensure high strength and low weight.
To do this, the boatyard had to build a unique set of workshops for the catamaran as controlled conditions were required to work with the sensitive composites.
The team fitted a new mast and renewed the rig before repainting the boat and restoring her to her original specification.
