The 42’ catamaran Orinoco Flo lost her mast about 850 miles out in the Atlantic during 2012. A stay broke which snapped the mast, sending it overboard and damaging one of the hulls in the process.
Enroute from Antigua, she was found 85 miles from the Isles of Scilly and towed by lifeboat to Falmouth Boat Co.
Orinoco Flo is well known throughout the sailing community for her design and innovation. We rebuilt the high tech hull using carbon fibre composites and Kevlar. To do this, we built a set of workshops bespoke to the catamaran so that the sensitive composites could be applied in the required controlled conditions.
We fitted a new mast and renewed the rig before repainting the boat and restoring her to the original specification.
Images of the damaged catamaran as it arrived in the Scillies can be seen here.
