How does sailing make us feel so good?

Pinuccia bringing joy to the sailors

The physical benefits of sailing are quite obvious but there is a multitude of ways that sailing improves how you feel.

The saltiness of sea air contains charged ions which help the body absorb oxygen which help to balance serotonin levels and makes us feel more relaxed.

Being actively engaged, focussing on and enjoying sailing is good for us as it gives our minds a break from the usual stress in our heads.

Whether it’s the exhilaration of the wind, the rhythmic movement of the sea or the sight of a seal or dolphin, being so close to nature makes us calmer and more positive too.

The days are now getting longer and spring is on its way. If you can’t yet get out sailing try to take some time in nature to rebalance can help. A wintery walk, the feeling of the weather on your face and the sight of the snowdrops and primroses peeping through the winter brown remind us that winter is but one of the seasons.
