Kingfisher is made from Honduras mahogany on oak and is varnished inside and out. After nearly 100 years four planks split on the port side and needed replacing. There were two main challenges.
Honduras mahogany is a banned import and therefore no longer available. Different woods had to be considered to get the closest possible match. The varnish is such high quality that exceptional treatment was needed to match the alien wood to the existing planks. The repairs are invisible with the colour of the timber and depth of shine to the varnish being a perfect match.
