Falmouth Boat Co.’s (FBC) new Humber RIB (Rigid Inflatable Boat) has undertaken its inaugural recovery mission to aid a boat with engine failure in the Isles of Scilly.
The RIB was dispatched early on Monday, May 20 from Flushing to St Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, carrying four FBC crew members.
On arrival, two of the crew boarded the boat and the RIB accompanied the vessel as it was brought back to Flushing under power of just one of its twin engines.
FBC can now carry out the necessary repairs in the boatyard’s facilities.
This is a prime example of the new recovery service that FBC is offering. The RIB got skilled crew to the boat in difficulties in short time and were able to support it during its challenging journey back to the mainland.
The Humber RIB can carry 12 crew members and can be launched at short notice.
It is a valuable new resource in taking FBC staff to vessels in trouble so they can diagnose problems on site and decide the best course of action without delay.
It furthers the reach of the Flushing boatyard and can help ensure that vessels needing work are brought safely to the workshops.
